Recognizing opportunities in the emerging wireless commerce market, in 2001 Surtees transformed emaimai.com, a Hong Kong-based Chinese auction site, into an international mobile payment service...an entirely new business. Harnessing existing technology, he led a team of managers to identify an opportunity: creating a new business which transformed existing cellular phone networks into a digital identification verification tool. This enabled users to confirm payments quickly, securely and easily, regardless of language, location or currency.
