Dr. Steven J. Stein is a psychologist and CEO of Multi-Health Systems (MHS), a largest Canadian publisher of psychological tests. He is also co-author of the best-selling book, The EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Success (with Howard E. Book, Stoddart Publishing, 2000). This book breaks new ground by clearly defining "emotional intelligence," giving specific examples and excercises for improving your emotional quotient (EQ), and providing some of the findings from the world's largest database of people tested for emotional intelligence (now more than 100,000 from all walks of life). Dr. Stein received his B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa. He was the Director of Research at Thistletown Regional Centre, which was the largest child and adolescent mental health centre in Canada, before founding (together with his wife Rodeen) MHS, a three-time Profit 100 (fastest growing companies in Canada) winner.
He is an expert on psychological assessment and has consulted to the U.S. Air Force, Canadian Forces, special units of the Pentagon, athletic teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, and numerous corporate clients. He has presented research on selection of military personnel at NATO Headquarters in Brussels as well as other assessment-based studies to the American Psychological Association, Canadian Psychological Association and others.
Dr. Stein holds an appointment at the Hospital for Sick Children's Psychiatric Department (Toronto), was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and taught in the Psychology Department at York University for ten years. He has previously been on the Board of Directors of Aisling-Discoveries, a treatment program for children with mental health and family problems, and has been on the Board of Directors of ITAC (Information Technology Association of Canada) Ontario. He is also a former President of the Ontario Psychological Association.
Dr. Stein has made numerous appearances on nationally broadcast television shows that include ABC, NBC, CBC, CTV, Global and MSNBC networks. He has been interviewed on more than 50 local and national radio shows. His work has been featured in articles in the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, National Post, Dallas Morning News, Scientific American, Training Magazine, HR Magazine, HR Reporter, Canadian Family Magazine, Fast Company, Continental Airlines Magazine, Harvard Management Update (a newsletter of Harvard Business School) and many other printed media. He is a leading speaker on the topic of emotional intelligence and has presented throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, Sweden, Holland, South Africa and elsewhere.
