Dr. Snyderman has reported on topics such as AIDS; colon, breast and ovarian cancer; heart disease, fetal surgery, prenatal testing and osteoporosis. In addition, she presented a special five-part series on various aspects of plastic surgery, which was honored with the 1990 Journalism Award of Excellence by the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Snyderman also spearheaded the creation of GMA’s acclaimed month-long look at women’s health issues and health-care options entitled “The Healthy Woman: Taking Charge of Your Body and Mind,” which aired in October 1991, and has continued as a weekly feature on GMA. In November 1990 she traveled to Saudi Arabia with GMA co-host Charles Gibson for a special Thanksgiving week of shows on Operation Desert Shield, focusing on stories of medical importance, as well as topics of interest to U.S. women serving in the area. She has continued her interest in medical stories emanating from the Soviet Union and served as a visiting scholar there during 1990. Dr. Snyderman served as the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 1983 until June 1988, when she joined KPIX-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Francisco, as a medical reporter. She previously held the same position at KARK-TV, the NBC affiliate in Little Rock, Ark., from 1985 to 1988. A board-certified surgeon of otolaryngology (a branch of medicine dealing with the ear, nose and throat), Dr. Snyderman also is a trained pediatrician. She continues to practice medicine in her private practice in San Francisco along with her duties at KPIX. Her work has been widely published in peer review medical journals, and she is the recipient of numerous research grants, including recent awards from the American Cancer Society, the Kellogg Foundation and the American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. She also has received awards for her medical broadcast reporting from the California Medical Association, the Radio and Television News Directors Association, the Associated Press and United Press International.
