Mary E. Boone Mary E. Boone is president of Boone Associates. She is an internationally recognized author, speaker, consultant, and executive coach and is considered a leading authority on cutting edge approaches to organizational communication and strategic applications of information technology (IT).
Boone's work in progress, Managing Inter@ctively: Executing Business Strategy, Improving Communication, and Creating a Knowledge-Sharing Culture (McGraw-Hill, 2001) sets forth her innovative theory of interactive management and includes interviews with top executives such as Bill Esrey, CEO of Sprint; Gerry Laybourne, CEO of Oxygen Media; and Steve Kerr, Chief Learning Officer of General Electric. Research for this book focuses on the communication approaches necessary for management success in virtual environments. Boone's previous book, Leadership and the Computer (Prima Publishing, 1993), was selected as "required reading" for Congress by the Speaker of the House in 1995, and Successful Meetings Magazine selected Boone as one of the top 25 speakers for 1996. Leadership and the Computer contains compelling case studies of CEOs, chairmen, and presidents who use information technology to change corporate cultures, coach people throughout the firm, manage organizational transition, and enhance their personal effectiveness. Boone's ideas have received widespread attention. Boone presents speeches to top-level executive audiences and provides consulting, coaching, and training in the areas of organizational communication and leadership, internal consulting skills, and executive technology needs assessment. Boone currently serves as a columnist for Sales and Marketing Management Magazine and she hosts a regular segment on FMN, a video series for financial executives. She has authored over 100 articles for a wide variety of general business and information systems publications. Prior to founding Boone Associates, Boone was vice president of NDMA Inc., one of the foremost consultancies in the management of information technology departments. Early in her career, Boone was a contributing editor to two leading teleconferencing industry publications: Business TV Magazine and TeleSpan. She is recognized for her cover story interviews with key figures such as Ted Koppel and Tom Peters. She also was a visiting scholar at the Institute for the Future (IFTF), a futures research group which is a spinoff of the Rand Corporation. Boone's degrees, a masters from the University of Texas at Austin, and an undergraduate from Wake Forest University, are in communication theory. She also received the designation of Senior Fellow from the two-year International Executive Forum program at the Western Behavioral Sciences Institute in La Jolla, California.
