Joyce Coleman: Profile

Joyce Coleman is the quintessential Renessaince woman. Growing up in rural, pre-civil rights Mississippi, she walked across creeks and partures to a one-room schoolhouse, carrying her lunch in a tin molasses bucket. She went on to graduate summa cum laude from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. She then made history in the aviation industry.

At Trans World Airlines (TWA) Joyce became the first black woman to become an officer and vice president of a major US airline. She first served as Vice President of Customer Relations, developing frontline empowerment programs that resulted in dramatic improvements to the TWAs customer service image. She then headed up critical operations areas, including Cabin Crew Manpower and Planning; Dining Services; Cabin Crew Management; and Hiring and Training, where she reorganized departments to better support desired corporate outcomes. Under her supervision, teams developed award winning services, streamlined processes and reduced costs.

Among her many credits, Joyce has been named to New York City's YWCA Academy of Women Achievers, selected for Career Focus Magazine's Eagle Award, listed in the International Who's Who of Professionals and Strathmore's Who's Who Registry of Business Leaders, and is a member of the International Society of Speakers, Authors and Consultants. She is the author of several books, Soul Stirrings: A Study Guide for Grades 4-12 that accompanies the Soul Stirrings book and A Primer on How to Achieve High Quality Customer Satisfaction and Personal Effectiveness. Joyce is a frequent talk radio guest on stations throughout the United States, has written numerous articles on Strategic Power Practices for Success, operates an internet-based publishing company and is consulting with several startup enterprises.

Joyce credits her success to a work ethic instilled in her by her family, faith and a systems approach to problem solving. She firmly believes that past experiences and learning, interwoven with an appreciation for continuous learning, can propel you even further than imagined.
