FEE CATEGORY*: 20.0k to 25.0k

TRAVELS FROM: Oregon

    James Cathcart: Profile
James Cathcart has been a consultant for Franklin Covey Company since 1994. He has done extensive work with corporate, education, government, and military organizations all across the United States and Canada. Some of his clientele include AT&T, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, various school districts, The United States Air Force and The United States Navy.

“Most of my interests and activities have something to do with the noble triumph of the human spirit. My fascination with things military for example, has little to do with the technology involved or the act of waging war. Rather, I am intrigued by the character that one develops in such conflict. Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain, the renowned leader of the 20th Maine in the U.S. Civil War said it best... ‘War is for the participants a test of character; it makes bad men worse and good men better.’”

He received his degree in Sociology and Organizational Behavior from Brigham Young University. His emphasis in business ethics and principle-centered leadership has contributed significantly to his value as a Franklin Covey Senior Consultant.

Early in his career, James Cathcart served as a language instructor (Afrikaans) and high-school teacher. He also spent seven years as a security supervisor for the Utah Transit Authority, a government-funded institution designed to meet the transportation needs of Northern Utah. James Cathcart's expertise in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, quick sense of humor, and dynamic personality has made him one of the most sought after consultants at Franklin Covey. An explorer by nature, he spends much of his time hiking and cycling in the hills and mountains of Portland, Oregon.

“Nothing has had a greater impact on my life than the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Having completed a full-time mission in South Africa for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and afterwards serving in various ecclesiastical and teaching positions, I have developed a deep reverence for, and testimony of the truths of the gospel.”
