He also knows the thrill of regaining his zest for life and the joy of having a guide dog provide him with a renewed opportunity for freedom and independence. He now serves as the head of Fidelco and his passion is bringing similar opportunities to other individuals who are blind. Mr. Salpietro is a person who leaves a lasting impression. One-on-one, or in his presentations for audiences across the country, he speaks a few simple truths. He talks of light and dark, fear and exhilaration and most importantly, how people, including those with disabilities, can take control of their lives. And inevitably, he leaves those who meet or hear him impressed, empowered and uplifted. George Salpietro says, “Today, I am a person fulfilled. And my greatest reward is knowing that I help people who are blind regain their freedom and independence.” He leaves those who meet or hear him impressed, empowered, and uplifted. Mr. Salpietro has received numerous awards, including being honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow, the Lions Club’s highest level of recognition. He has one daughter, a grandson, and lives with his wife, in Colchester, Connecticut.
