    Denis Lacombe: Profile

In sixth grade, to become a member of the "in crowd", Denis Lacombe played the class clown ... It was an immediate success! Since then, Denis hasn't stopped creating and becoming all sorts of hilarious characters. After studying music, Denis Lacombe took on theater and television with a fierce determination rarely seen. In 1974, he helped to create the musical comedy band called DEBILIS and for the next five years, he toured with them performing in many towns all over Quebec.

To become an excellent well rounded performer, Denis Lacombe also studied mime and tap dancing before entering l'École National de Cirque de Montréal (The National Circus School of Montreal) in 1984. He went through their doors with all of his characters, all of his acts ... displaying his vast repertoire of talent!

Since January 1985, this Canadian artist, has been talked about on the international scene. During this period, he was performing at the "Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain" in Paris, where he received the highest marks in the clown category and consequently won the bronze medal. This is not surprising since he literally seduced audiences with his performances with Le Cirque du Soleil.

He performed for the 1985-1986 edition of Le Cirque du Soleil and in November 1986, he made his debut performance on the New York scene as a guest artist for the Big Apple Circus at the Lincoln Center. After more than 300 new vaudeville burlesque shows and recognized for, among other things, his sense of timing, he rejoined Le Cirque du Soleil for their California tour.

From then on, it has been total devotion. The public and the critics adore him, especially for his act "The Orchestra Conductor" which is totally irresistible. His performances as the "Mechanical Clown" and the "Invisible Man" are also very unusual and very funny. The magazine "La Voix du Cirque" from France claim that Denis Lacombe is "something new, a veritable breath of fresh air in the world of clowns".

In December 1987 he participated in the Walt Disney Special Celebrity Circus. The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour invited him in March of 1988 and on the 17th of May 1988, he presented his number "The Mechanical Clown" on the "Second Annual Comedy Awards", shown nation-wide on the ABC network. And this is just the beginning!

His idols? Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Goofy. Denis Lacombe is also an idol in his own right. Ron Jenkins will be devoting a whole chapter to him in his book Acrobats of the Soul, a book dedicated to the new burlesque performers.
