Chris Carmichael: Profile
Chris Carmichael is the founder and CEO of Carmichael Training Systems, Inc. (CTS) and personal coach to cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong. Named the US Olympic Committee’s Coach of the Year in 1999, Chris formed CTS in 2000 after spending more than two decades in the sport of cycling. Through Chris’s leadership, CTS immediately established itself as the premier destination for personal fitness, nutrition, and performance coaching. To ensure that his message and coaching philosophy continue to be delivered at the highest level of quality, Chris created an unsurpassed education program that develops the highest-trained coaches in the industry. With a network of more than 100 coaches located throughout North American and beyond, the thousands of athletes working with CTS have full access to an unmatched base of knowledge and experience.
Chris is the author of New York Times bestseller Chris Carmichael's Food For Fitness: Eat Right to Train Right, The Ultimate Ride, and co-author of The Lance Armstrong Performance Program, with Lance Armstrong.
Chris's unique "Train Right" methods have been featured on NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, CNN, 60 Minutes, The Discovery Channel, ABC’s World News Tonight, Tech TV and the Outdoor Life Network among others. Chris Carmichael coaches and consults elite athletes including: USPS rider and four-time Olympian George Hincapie, World Record Swimmer Ed Moses, Indy Car driver Eliseo Salazar, 2000 & 2004 Paralympian Ron Williams, two-time Ironman World Champion Peter Reid and Indy race car driver Tony Kanaan of the Andretti Green Racing Team.
A member of the first American team (7-Eleven) to ride in the Tour de France in 1986 and the 1984 U.S. Olympic Cycling Team, Chris has also pioneered and perfected world-class coaching methods and spawned the development of much of the technology used currently in modern coaching.
