Akosua Busia's first novel, The Seasons of Beento Blackbird is one of the most talked about debuts from a young author. The story of an African-American teacher and writer who divides his life by the seasons in Africa, the Caribbean and America, The Seasons of Beento Blackbird delves into the changing nature of racial and cultural identity in America and abroad and is already in development as a major motion picture. Akosua, herself, much like her characters traveled and lived all over the globe. Immersed in a variety of cultures, Busia has a keen awareness of the ever changing tide of race relations throughout the world. Akosua grew up in Ghana and attended the prestigious Central School of Drama and Speech in London. She graduated early and went on to star in projects for the stage and screen throughout Europe. After being dubbed one of Europe's "Ten Most Promising Stars," Akosua turned her thoughts to America. Now she combines the different chapters of her life as a black woman in Africa, Europe and America as well as the fictional lives of her characters both on screen and in print to present a compelling program that examines racial and cultural identity in the world today.
