The development of the world's first test of emotional intelligence, the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory® (EQ-i®), has played a large role in facilitating this new understanding. Leaders in organizations around the world are realizing the importance of not only their own emotional smarts, but also its impact on their employees and the operational performance of their organizations. You will learn more about the impact of these factors in selection, development, and leadership. Studies looking at IQ and job success have found that IQ has accounted for approximately 6% of the variance. New data looking at EQ and success on the job will be presented. The importance of the differences between EQ and these other areas will help you understand the unique contributions of EQ to success. In this presentation, emotional intelligence will be defined. You will get an overview of the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory® (EQ-i®), the world's first scientific, multi-factor measure of emotional intelligence. Five general factors of EQ and 15 specific scales will be defined. The general factors include Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Adaptability, Stress Management, and General Mood. The 15 specific scales of emotional intelligence include: Emotional Self-Awareness, Assertiveness, Self-Regard, Self-Actualization, Independence, Empathy, Interpersonal Relationship, Social Responsibilty, Problem Solving, Flexibility, Reality Testing, Stress Tolerance, Impulse Control, Optimism, and Happiness. Interesting results from data analyses on more than 250,000 people tested worldwide, will be presented. Profiles of specific groups that may be highlighted include Top Gun U.S. Naval Pilots, members of the Young President's Organization (YPO), hockey draft picks for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and more that 100 unemployed people receiving assistance. The application of the EQ-i to various industries and organizations will be discussed. Specifically, you will learn how the EQ-i is used to benchmark people at work and profile "star performers" as well, the use of group profiles for staff development will be discussed. You will learn how managers are using their benchmarked results as part of their recruitment process to make better hiring decisions.
