Rue McClanahan: Program Outlines
Growing Old Gracefully In addition to funny and interesting stories about her career, Rue provides her insights on things to eat, lifestyles to stay young, vigorous & healthy, and certain carcinogens to stay away from. Also, Rue discusses the four myths that one should not to buy into in order to age gracefully. The first myth is that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. You can, but you have to keep yourself healthy. The second is that the horse is out of the barn—that it’s too late to undo the damage caused by eating poorly, smoking or not exercising. The third myth: Successful aging depends on your genes. Choosing your lifestyle wisely is more important. And the final myth: The lights may be on but the voltage is low, referring to sex. Health, not age, makes the difference in enjoying sex. My Battle with Breast Cancer Rue speaks to her audience about the emotional, physical and psychological obstacles a woman must overcome in order to survive this deadly battle. McClanahan looks at the whole range of difficult choices women are faced with when diagnosed with breast cancer - the moment they learn of it, telling their loved ones, the medical processes involved, acceptance and recovery. Most importantly, she demonstrates with colorful examples from her own life that to overcome obstacles you must have hope and faith in yourself and in those around you.
