Kurt is a master story teller. The audience will both laugh and cry, but always from the edge of their seats. His story is universal.. PROGRAM Kurt Muse was raised and educated in Panama. As a board member of a prominent Civic Club during the Noriega Regime, he helped organize on an interclub project to "Rescue The Country's Civic and Moral Values." General Noriega would have nothing of the sort. The President of Kurt's club was kidnapped and murdered and the ambitious project was cancelled. These and other abuses attracted a half a million peaceful Panamanians to demonstrate their outrage. All of Panama's civic clubs were present. Kurt Muse's printing company distributed flyers announcing the event. The following week, General Noriega had Kurt's shop burned down.
Outraged, Kurt met with a small group of friends, and set up the country's only free radio station—The Voice of Liberty. Their maiden transmission electronically interrupted General Noriega during his State of the Union Address. Noriega was blind-sided! During the better part of the following year, Panama's alleyways saw the deadly game of cat and mouse between Noriega's soldiers and Kurt's band of freedom fighters.
Kurt was eventually captured. His 15 year old daughter managed to elude the secret police and was able to alert the group, saving them all. Kurt subsequently endured days of sleepless interrogation. He spent nine incredible months in solitary confinement in Noriega's infamous Modelo Prison. A soldier was posted at his cell door with orders to execute him if anyone tried to rescue him.
At 12:45 am on December 20th, 1989, elite Delta Force commandos stormed the prison in what was to be the most dramatic rescue in recent military history. America's finest and bravest warriors fought their way down to Kurt and stole him back to the roof to an awaiting helicopter. It was shot down twice! An amazing story in and of itself.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND "Courage, duty, loyalty, heroism seem to appear infrequently on our social landscape. Kurt's message is a powerful one, truly inspirational, and it reflects just these virtues. It needs to be heard by all generations..."
BACKGROUND PROFILE Kurt Muse was born in the United States into a family of citizen soldiers whose roots date back to the Revolutionary War. His adventurous family lived first in Cuba and eventually settled in Panama where they began a printing and graphic arts business. Kurt married his high school sweetheart and came back to the U.S. to continue their college education. After graduation, Kurt took his ROTC commission for a short stint in the Army. Obligations fulfilled, Kurt returned home to work in the family business and begin his family. He had no idea that his quiet and perfectly ordinary civilian life would evolve into one of the most heroic rescues in recent military history. The story begins on the streets of Panama City with Kurt and his 12 year old son stopped at a Noriega military checkpoint. It ends two years later in a Washington Airport, Kurt in bloodied clothing, embraced by his loving family.
